Photonics Bretagne ClusterXchange, in conjunction with PhD Days, Lannion, France

January 18 @ 8:00 am 5:00 pm EET

Building up on the success of the 2021 event, Photonics Bretagne is happy to organize the 2nd edition of the Photonics PhD Days.

This 3-day, fully English-speaking event aims to bring together PhD students in all fields of photonics from all over Europe, and to stir up exciting ideas for their future.

They will have the opportunity to pitch their work, take part in an entrepreneurship workshop, network with their peers and with industry leaders, and ask their questions in 1-2-1 meetups with business founders and managers. See the full programme and register on the event page.

In conjunction with this event showcasing our young talents, we are inviting European companies to discover the photonics ecosystem in Brittany on January 18th through the EU ClusterXchange scheme.

Brittany has established itself as a global centre for innovation in photonics thanks to its innovative SMEs and the excellence of its research centres and photonics higher education institutions.

In a similar way to the North-American Science Parks, Brittany has its own Photonics Park in Lannion, where most of the activity in photonics is concentrated. The Photonics Park includes a business centre, a technology platform and an incubator. The photonics sector itself employs close to 1,000 people in around thirty SMEs and institutions. It also benefits from many cutting-edge facilities allowing for great innovation capabilities.

The ClusterXchange day on December 18th will consist of presentations of regional companies, networking time and visits to the local facilities in Lannion. Participants are also invited to attend the relevant programme of the PhD days, meet the young researchers and engineers, and give them their own insight into careers in photonics. The full programme of that day will be released soon.

Travel and accommodation costs can be funded for eligible companies and research labs. Please get in touch with Photonics Bretagne’s Cluster Manager Gwenaëlle LEFEUVRE for more information.

In Brittany, the international airports of Rennes and Brest have several direct connections to major European cities. South of Brittany, the airport in Nantes is also at a reasonable distance.

Upon arrival, travelers can either rent a car (see the airport websites) or take the train, although driving might be the fastest way to reach the Pink Granite Coast.

Where to Stay: You can find a list of accommodations on Lannion’s tourism website. Please note that accommodation for PhD students is included in the event. For additional nights, please get in touch with us.
